Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

International Internship – “Immersion in Manila”

The Servant Partners International Internship takes place in a squatter community in Manila, Philippines.  Our program is an introduction into the various aspects of doing ministry among the urban poor and anyone who is interested in learning to grow in having a heart for serving God’s needy is encouraged to participate.

A unique aspect of the International Internship is that it can be tailored to fit the interests and needs of the participants.  There is no specific date, length, or type of ministry that the interns are limited to.  Although it is not guaranteed that a participant’s preferences will all be met, the Servant Partners staff will work with applicants to find the best match for their interests and the needs.  Any individual who is 18 years of age may apply.  It is open to both individuals and teams.  Past internships have often involved undergraduate students in a 6-week summer program.  However, any future applicant should not feel bound to this structure.

Interns will be working directly with the International Internship Directors, Aaron and Ema Smith, to serve at a local church.  Specific ministry activities will depend on the interests of the applicants.  All participants will also receive biblical teaching on urban ministry, participate in prayer walks, go on site visits, and build relationships within the squatter community.

The experience, while challenging, will also be rewarding.  At the conclusion of the program, not every person will continue to work in the mission field.  Regardless of the fields they choose for their careers, our hope is that the participants will continue to have in mind issues related to the urban poor and seek to advance ministries and social justices among the poor.
