Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

Domestic Internship

Servant Partners provides an internship in the city of Los Angeles for those interested in pursuing a life of serving the urban poor, whether it be overseas or domestic.  The internship is an urban church planting internship with a focus on community, discipleship, and incarnational ministry.

Community:  Interns live in designated neighborhoods of Los Angeles, intentionally pursuing a community of faith, learning, and action, with each other and their neighbors.

Discipleship:  Through times of regular theological training, inductive Bible study, and mentoring, interns grow in their knowledge of God’s heart for the poor.  Interns are encouraged to explore their spiritual gifts and seek healing in their lives, through different workshops, accountability, and guidance from the director.

Incarnational ministry: As Jesus walked among the poor and ministered to the needy, interns seek to serve and live among their low-income neighbors to personally understand the needs and struggles of the neighborhood.  A two-week trip to the slums of Manila, at the beginning of the internship, jump-starts the interns’ vision for what urban church planting is about. Interns then become involved with an urban church plant in the Los Angeles area and receive practical training on the ins and outs of church planting among the urban poor.  Interns are self supporting with full time jobs, learning the value and discipline of work.

Who can be a Servant Partners domestic intern?

While the program mainly attracts recent college graduates, it is open to anyone who is seriously considering overseas or domestic urban poor work and needs training and/or time to explore their options.  We encourage all who are interested to fill out the application; it is designed to encourage reflection and to aid in the discernment process.  Our admissions process is highly personal; we are happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.

Two years in L.A.

Interns fundraise $4,000, which covers orientation, trip to Manila, books and training materials, activities, and administration of the internship.  Before the two years are up, interns, with the guidance of the internship director, reflect on their experience and enter into a discernment process concerning their next move.
