We train urban ministers
Learning Among the Urban Poor
Has God called you to serve the urban poor? Are you seriously considering living among the urban poor in either the U.S. or overseas? If so, consider one of our internships to continue on the journey.
♦ Two Year Internship - Greater Los Angeles, Oakland and San José, California
Servant Partner’s Two-year Internship equips mature disciples as servant leaders who actively love the urban poor, through communal & experiential discipleship. Interns live together, study Scripture together, and minister together while pursuing a deeper relationship with God. One intern described her experience as “a two-year crash course in deeper discipleship”. If you’re looking to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and you want to grow in serving the poor, this could be a great place for you!
The two-year internship begins in the fall each year. We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2013 sites.
♦ San Jose, CA for Fall 2013 (It's unlikely that another domestic site will start in Fall 2013)
Admission: Application due February 15th, 2013
Interns commit to community
Interns live together in an urban poor neighborhood within Greater Los Angeles, Oakland or San José near one of our partner churches. This is an intentional community living experience where interns are eating together, praying together, serving their neighbors together as well as learning to love and reconcile with one another.
Interns commit to discipleship
Interns will be open to hearing the voice of God in new and unexpected ways--in the scriptures, from staff members, from neighbors, and from each other. We begin in the early fall with a three week trip to an overseas slum to give interns a vision for urban church planting and holistic community transformation. Upon returning to the US, interns serve and live among their low-income neighbors to personally understand the needs and struggles of the neighborhood. As they participate in the ministry of a local church in their communities, interns receive practical training on the ins and outs of church planting and community organizing among the urban poor.

♦ International Internship - Bangkok, Thailand
For 10 months in Bangkok, you can live in an urban poor community with a multi-national team of interns. Participants will walk alongside rising leaders in poor communities as partners, growing together as true neighbors, sharing of themselves and of their resources. Interns will gain skills in development work, deepen spiritual foundations and identity, and be challenged to love wholeheartedly. This program is ideal for mature, open self-starters considering international missions and development work.
Our team works in partnership with local Thai leaders, focusing on leadership development, implementing community organizing principles and processes. We work to equip the local Thai church in holistic ministry and partner with secular leaders to practically improve and empower the poor. Apprentices will also serve in house churches, supporting and building up Thai leaders and participating in ushering God's Kingdom in the communities in which they live as they learn from those around them. As a Servant Partners apprentice you would be living incarnationally in a slum community while learning language, building relationships and serving to develop leaders in discipleship, community organizing, youth programs, land rights and public health, among other things.
Admission: Application Deadline April 20, 2013
