"But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers"
- NEW INTERNSHIP - 10 MONTHS IN BANGKOK, THAILAND
Mar 7, 2011
This year, in addition to our 2 year Internships in Los Angeles and Oakland, and our independent learning internship in Manila, we are offering a new 10 month Internship to learn God's love for the poor in the slums of Bangkok.
For 10 months in Bangkok, you can live in a slum community with a multi-national team of interns. Participants will walk alongside rising leaders in poor communities as partners in one heart, growing together as true neighbors, sharing of themselves and of their resources. Interns will gain skills in development work, learn language, deepen spiritual foundations and identity, and be challenged to love wholeheartedly. This program is ideal for mature, open self-starters considering international missions and development work. The 2012 program runs from September 13, 2011 - July 1, 2012, and applications are due April 1st.
If you do decide to join in this adventure, one day you might experience something similar to SP Staff Lexie, who wrote this reflection on being a neighbor in Bangkok:
"Attending a neighborhood exercise group, I overheard a neighbor telling the visiting aerobics instructor, "Oh that girl? No, she's not a guest, she's one of us! She just lives here, she's lived here for many, many years." A small dark thought arose in me: "I'm not the same! I am a successful college-educated person here to HELP you..." Almost instantly, my stomach turned. Who do I think that I am and why in the world would I feel the need to separate myself from my neighbors, especially as "above" them? I immediately asked God's forgiveness and then could see the sweetness and honor in my neighbors accepting comment.. and THEN I actually felt something a little bit like joy."
